 Week Twenty Three


This week in pattern cutting I draped my panier sample that I made over the weekend to imagine how I could want this to be in my design. This was successful because it gave me ideas on how my designs can be developed and how I can attach this to the dress design. 


   


From designing my paniers and draping them I discovered that I want two of these asymmetrically but I think that the panier for the shoulder may be too big so I decided to divided the original pattern measurements and divided this by a third. 


I also started to make my dress pattern this week which I found a bit difficult to understand how to create the pattern with the empire waists. After asking to assistance I was able to understand the pattern so Incan finish this off at home over Easter. 


In Textiles this week I Finished of my skirt by added the zip. This was a difficult process to start with as the zip I had taken out of the trousers, in moving it around the zip had come of the teeth. Luckily someone had an old zip that I could use so this worked. When sewing this zip I accident send the two panels together with the zip affectively creating a fake zip so I had to amend this by unpicking it and sewing making sure it can open. 

I hemmed the top of the skirt to finish it off and then send the label in by hand to minimise the amount of stitches sewn on the right side. At home I decided to add poppers that where given to me so that the waistcoat wouldn’t flap open and would be more wearable. overall, I am happy with my final outcome as I think I have used materials sustainably. I also made sure to stick to my £10 budget and only brought second hand garments. 


 


In CAD this week we made a cover for a travel magazine which I enjoyed as we got to choice our image and our font. We also went over the parts of a magazine and what they mean which was useful as I wasn’t aware.


 

In Stretch this week I started to make my final lived for the global goals which Iw I’ll continue in the next lesson. I enjoyed this because I like weaving And I was preparing fabrics to be woven with, for example, plaiting the, to add structure and textures.  


In Photography this week I continued with my tabloid making on Indesign which made me think about ways that I could use this software to develop my pages to look more advanced. To do this I used photoshop to get rid of the background on some of my pictures to add this knot pages.

 Week Ten.     In pattern cutting this week, we finalised our skirt designs that we had drawn at home. I think my skirt designs where successful because I have explored a range of skirt styles whilst still making sure they all relate to each other. I did this by making a start design and adjusting this about it, for example, the godet size, length or number of panels.    In our next lesson we started to make our pattern for our skirt, I decided to go with my design for a six gored panel skirt with four godets. I made this pattern by reflecting to previous bookwork to remind me of the steps. I think this went well as my pattern works. I know this because when we made our toiles for the skirt at home everything lined up and was correctly measured.     At home this week I made my toile for my skirt, this went well as I learnt my pattern w orks and I had no issues when sewing this together.     In textiles this week I started to work ...

Week Twelve.

  Blog Twelve. In Pattern cutting, this lesson, I finished off making my skirt. I added the zip with an invisible zip foot which went well. I'm proud of how my zip has turned out as you cant see it beneath the fabric of the skirt. After I used the normal zip foot to attach the skirt together, this was harder to do as you can't get as close to the seam, however, the seams still looks neat from the outside. At home all I had to do was attach the facing and undertsitched it,so i'm proud of my progress and completing my skirt in good time.  In my last lesson before the hand in I made sure all my work was presented well and I stuck in the final photos of my skirt that I had evaluated. I'm glad that I managed to hand in all my work on time.  In textiles this week I made sure that my work was ready to hand in for Friday. I did this by printing out and repeating my final designs and adding in my recent samples to help show my development in my sketchbook.  In my final lesson...

Work experience - Day one

Work Experience  Today was my first day of work experience at a secondary schools textile department and I started by preparing the screen printing station for the year seven students. I located the screen printing inks and squeegees and put these aside so that they can be used for the teacher demonstration. I decided to put out a range of sizes of these so that the teacher can choose which size of frame she wants to use in her demonstration. Once she decided this I then put away the larger size so that the area wasn’t cluttered. As this was my first time screen printing I was a bit apprehensive as I wand t sure how to do it but once I had watched the demonstration I was confident I would be able to help.    I helped the students put ink on there frames and hold them down when they print to ensure there’s less wastage of dyes.
