Week Twenty Six
Week Twenty Six
In Textiles this week I started to make the trouser pattern using a block to start the shape. I wanted to make sure these trousers would fit my model so I was thinking of ways of how to expand the pattern. Afterthinking of an option I asked the teacher for advise and I settled on adding 0.7inches/2cm all the way around the the whole pattern. When making the curved parts of the trousers at the bottom of the leg it was challenging because I needed to make the curve equal for the front and the back so that they lined up. To make the curve I added length to the trousers and used my pattern master to make the curved measurements exact so that I can replicate this to the other side. As the trousers are asymmetrical so I had to pattern cut each leg twice to get the front and back so this was quite time consuming.
After doing this we reviewed our designs and developed them to improve them. Doing this meant that I needed to create more samples based on these so I created pleated samples, experimenting with different widths and pleat measurements. Doing this has inspires other parts off the design to also feature these pleats. I decided to expand ne end of the pleats which has linked to our chosen building well as it creates the curves shapes with lines in them which can be interpreted as windows.
In the last lesson of the week I made sure to finish the waist of the trousers making sure that the asymmetrical line was going int he same direction in the front and the back. I did this by marking the direction the the front leg went on the back so we I drew the lines they would go the same way. I altered the neckline on the front of the top and angled the hem, adding seam allowances. This went well as I am confident in how to do this.
In Pattern cutting this week, carrying on with the group architecture project, I continued to adjust the trousers shape to fit to my design and drew my fashion flat. I made sure that I had the bodice traced out so that I could take this away to work on. This was my first time seeing the means block and as it was a shirt pattern I decided to make the sides more straight and the neckline lower an wider so it wasn't as fitted.
On Friday after college I started to pleat the fabric that will go along the trouser seams, this took awhile as of the length but I found the process not too bad as I had previous experience.
In CAD this week we made a document for our look books for which we ca then add photos in pattern on. This was really useful as the base of the look book is done and now all I need to do is impost the images and add any other design elements/ principles in that I want to include.
In Stretch this week we started a new project called Step by Step would are a charity who specalises in young peoples counselling and homelessness. They want out to design three wall murals that they can add to their spaces. I started to research them and think about themes I could include. I made sure to think about subject, image and theme connotations as I need the design to stay positive, joyful l and fun. I decided that each design will be based of something different so that they cater to wider audience in hopes that everyone can relate and like at least one of them. I created a mood board and started on next weeks task of artists research as I was finished early. I am enjoying this project so far as I am looking into art styles and artist that I usually wouldn't look at or focus on in this course.
